Former Rams DE Chris Long Already Being Pursued By Contending Teams

Peter King of MMQB.com writes that of the three players released by the Rams last week — DE Chris Long, TE Jared Cook, and Jamesย Laurinaitis –, the one they could end up regretting the most is Long.

King reports that Long contending teams are alreadyย pursuing him now that he’s available to sign with a team of choosing.

Although, King mentions that a signing may not happen any time soon, considering that heย and his wife are expecting their first child in the coming weeks.

King doesn’t offer any specifics regarding which teams are interested in Long, but some speculative optionsย — both contenders and noncontenders —ย could include: theย Falcons, Panthers, Cowboys, Lions, Jaguars, Giants, Raiders, Seahawks, and Buccaneers.

Long, 30, wasย in the final year of hisย five-year, $60.31 million contract andย was set to make a base salary ofย $9.75 million for the 2016 season when he was released.

In 2015, Long appeared in 12 games and recorded 19 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the Rams.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 edge defenderย out of 110 qualifying players.

We haveย him featuredย in ourย Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
