James had been dealing with a wrist injury that he picked up this offseason and has been on the NFI list since the start of camp.
James, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2018. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract.
In 2019, James appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and caught six passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. He also totaled 428 kick return yards and 264 punt return yards.
