Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the 49ers officially released retired LT Joe Staley on Friday with an injury settlement.
According to Pelissero, this is just a procedural move and San Francisco is expected to re-sign him at some point and put him on their retired list.
Staley announced his retirement from the NFL last Saturday and the 49ers later acquired Trent Williams in a trade with the Redskins.

Staley, 35, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2007. He has played all 12 seasons in San Francisco and was entering the final year of a six-year, $52.45 million contract when he agreed to a two-year, $27.6 million extension last year.
Staley was set to make base salaries of $10,550,000 and $11,300,000 over the next two years.
In 2019, Staley appeared in seven games for the 49ers, making seven starts at left tackle.
