The San Francisco 49ers officially signed DB Chris Edwards to a futures contract for the 2020 season on Wednesday.
Here’s the updated list of futures signings for the 49ers:
- DE Jonathan Kongbo
- DB Derrick Kindred
- DB Chris Edwards
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Edwards, 27, wound up going undrafted out of Idaho back in 2016. He later signed on with the Raiders, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
From there, Edwards departed for an opportunity with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. He spent two years with them before joining the B.C. Lions in 2019.
During his three-year career in the CFL, Edwards recorded 112 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, a defensive touchdown and four forced fumbles over the course of 53 games.
