Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the 49ers have signed Rice RB Austin Walter to a contract on Saturday following the team’s rookie minicamp practice.
Walter was among 40 players trying out for the 49ers this weekend (NFLTR) and it appears he was impressive enough to convince the team to make an offer now.
Walter, 5-8, 202lb, wound up going undrafted out of Rice last week. Undrafted free agents are expected to sign three-year, $1,755 million contracts in 2019.
During his four-year college career at Rice, Walter rushed for 1,744 yards on 345 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 79 receptions for 803 yards receiving and 18 total touchdowns over the course of 49 games. He also totaled 1,548 kick return yards on 71 attempts.
