Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the 49ers have reached an agreement with TE Jordan Reed on an incentive-laden, one-year deal.
The 49ers have clearly been in the market for tight end help this offseason and it appears as though they felt Reed’s upside made the most sense for them as a compliment to George Kittle.
Reed spent time with 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan, so there’s already some familiarity between the two.
Reed, 30, was taken in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Redskins. He was in the final year of his rookie contract when he signed a six-year, $48 million deal that included $22 million guaranteed with Washington.
Reed was set to make base salaries of $8.25 million and $8.75 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Redskins released him earlier this offseason.
In 2018, Reed appeared in 13 games and caught 54 passes for 558 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
We had him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
