AFC Notes: Browns, Patriots, Steelers

Browns

An NFL spokesman issued the following statement to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk regarding the Odell Beckham Jr situation:

โ€œWe have been monitoring the situation but will decline further comment.โ€

  • The Browns scheduled to interview former Broncos OC Rich Scangarello for their offensive coordinator job. (NFLTR)
  • Mary Kay Cabot mentions that one possible scenario for new Browns HC Kevin Stefanski would be to hire Scangarello as offensive coordinator and then talk Brad Childress out of retiring and hire him as a senior offensive assistant.

Patriots

Patriots’ veteran CB Jason McCourty said he is recovering from surgery after dealing with a groin injury through the final seven games of the season.

Patriots’ backup QB Jarrett Stidham mentioned that he’s not thinking about Tom Brady‘s status with the team and is focused on his personal development.

“Right now, I can’t really think too much about all of that. I have to worry about what I need to do to prepare to enhance my game, to learn as much as I possibly can,” Stidham said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “That’s the biggest thing I’ve focused on, making a big stride from Year 1 to Year 2.”

Stidham called Brady a “phenomenal teammate” and has been able to learn from him through his rookie year.

“He’s a phenomenal teammate, a phenomenal person, obviously a phenomenal player. There was just so much that I got to learn from him. He was obviously very open to me about stuff that he’s thought about the game of football, and stuff like that. It was great. I can’t speak highly enough of that guy.”

Steelers

  • Charles Robinson reports that Steelers G David DeCastro underwent ankle surgery this week but is not expected to miss “extended time” this offseason.
