AFC Notes: Demario Davis, Robert Saleh, Dolphins, Jets, Titans

Dolphins

The Dolphins approach the 2026 NFL Draft with several needs on the defensive side. Miami GM Jon-Eric Sullivan pointed out that there is a lot of depth at edge rusher, safety, and inside linebacker beyond the first round.

“There’s depth at the edge spot. [There’s] a lot of safety depth. Inside linebacker, there’s depth and substance there. Those three positions, this draft relative to most, if you don’t get a guy in the first round, you have a chance to get a chance in the second, third round,” Sullivan said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Sullivan also said this is a really good draft for wide receivers in the second, third, and fourth rounds.

“It’s a really good wide receiver draft. [There are] some very good players up top; there’s depth and substance to it in the second, third, fourth rounds,” Sullivan said. “It’s my job to put more substance in that room. We have to surround Malik [Willis] with good football players. We’ve got to put playmakers around him.”

As for the possibility of trading down from No. 11 or 43, Sullivan said he is “all for” gaining picks but will not pass on players they like.

“You never know how it’s going to unfold. It truly depends on how the board falls and what’s available. I’m all for acquiring picks, but I’m not getting an award for [volume of] draft picks…. I will never pass on a very good player to acquire picks unless there are very good players I know I’m going to be able to get.”

Jets

The Jets signed LB Demario Davis as a free agent following his eight years with the Saints. Davis reflected on entering his third stint in New York, saying he’s now stepping in as a veteran leader.

“This wasn’t a happenstance situation,” Davis said, via Matthew Paras of NOLA.com. “This was a choice, knowing who I am and what I am called to be. I know what I’m stepping into this time around. I know what I’m bringing into a locker room. I know I play the game at an elite level. I know every year I’m trying to play better than the prior year.”

Titans

Titans HC Robert Saleh said that playmakers aren’t only on offense and said that guys who can get after the quarterback can also impact a game.

Edge rushers are playmakers, too,” Saleh said, via the team’s website. “When you are drafting that high … you are looking at: Who can change the game in one play? And, edge rushers can change the game in one play. (Jeremiyah) Love is a very talented young man and he can change it in one play. There’s receivers who can change it in one play. Right now, we need guys and we need to develop guys currently on our roster who can change the game in one play and when you are looking at all these guys from a consistency standpoint, who can flip the game on its head? Edge rushers can close it, and skill guys can end it.

Both GM Mike Borgonzi and Saleh have been complimentary of Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love, but Saleh believes that the team has a more than competent backfield.

I love our backfield, I love our running back room right now,” Saleh said. “Shoot, Pollard dropped over 100 on us (last season) so I think he’s pretty good. And then (Tyjae) Spears has tremendous versatility as a three-down back and they both play with a physical mindset. … I’m a believer in our backfield and I think it’s a group that can help our team. I look at our running back room as one of the better ones in football.
