Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Antonio Brown‘s grievances against the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots were officially filed on his behalf by the NFLPA Friday afternoon.
In total, Brown is seeking to recoup roughly $40 million in unpaid salary, fines and voided guarantees from these two teams. However, Rapoport says that his grievances likely won’t be heard by the system arbitrator until the spring and he faces a “major uphill battle” to recoup the entire sum.
According to Rapoport, Brown is specifically looking to recoup:
- Fine appeals with the Oakland Raiders: $215,000
- Salary guarantees with Oakland: $29 million
- Signing bonus with Raiders: $1 million
- Oakland’s unpaid Week 1 salary: $860,294
- New England Patriots’ salary guarantee: $1.025 million
- Patriots signing bonus: $9 million
- Patriots’ unpaid Week 3 salary: $64,062
Brown is still being investigated by the NFL after he was accused in a civil lawsuit of rape and sexual assault.
Brown, 31, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract when the Steelers traded him to the Raiders back in March.
The Raiders later signed Brown to a new contract worth $50.125 million and includes $30.125 million guaranteed. However, Oakland made the decision to release Brown a few weeks ago and he later signed a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Patriots.
Brown lasted just 11 days in New England.
In 2019, Brown appeared in one game for the Patriots and caught four passes for 56 yards receiving and one touchdown.
We’ll have more regarding Brown as the news is available.
