The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday that they’ve signed OL Cornelius Lucas to a futures contract for the 2019 season.
The Bears have now signed 14 players to futures deals including:
- LB Jameer Thurman
- LB James Vaughters
- OL Dejon Allen
- DL Abdullah Anderson
- DB John Franklin III
- WR Tanner Gentry
- WR Cyril Grayson
- DB Michael Joseph
- DB Jonathon Mincy
- RB Ryan Nall
- LB James Vaughters
- LB Josh Woods
- G Willie Beavers
- WR Jordan Williams-Lambert
- OL Cornelius Lucas
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Lucas, 27, signed on with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State back in 2014. He has managed to make the 53-man roster in each of his three years in the NFL and finished playing out his three-year, $1,550,000 contract with the Lions.
Lucas returned to the Lions last year on a restricted deal, but was among the team’s final roster cuts. The Rams signed him to a contract a few weeks into the regular season and brought him back on a new deal this past April.
Unfortunately, Lucas wound up being among the Rams’ final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and he was on and off of the Saints’ roster this past season.
In 2018, Lucas has appeared in one game for the Saints.
