Ian Rapoport reports that the Seahawks and LB Bobby Wagner have agreed to a three-year, $54 million extension. According to Rapoport, the contract includes $40.2 million guaranteed.
Wagner made it clear that he wanted to be the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL, topping the $17 million C.J. Mosley got from the Jets.
In terms of new money average, Wagner’s $18 million salary sets the new high-water mark for the position.
Wagner reported to the team for the start of training camp, despite a deal not being officially and it looks like the team stepped up to get this contract done before the start of the season.
Wagner, 28, is a former second-round pick by the Seahawks out of Utah State in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $43 million deal and set to earn a base salary of $10.5 million in 2019.
In 2018, Wagner appeared in 15 games for the Seahawks and recorded 138 total tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 11 pass defenses, and scored one defensive touchdown. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 1 linebacker out of 92 qualifying players.
