The Denver Broncos have signed OL Jake Brendel and CB Trey Johnson after they tried for the team during their minicamp this week, according to Ryan O’Halloran.
Brendel, 26, wound up signing on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA back in 2016. He was waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to Dallas’ practice squad.
After being released by the Cowboys, Brendel signed on to the Dolphins’ practice squad and managed to make the 53-man roster last year. Miami brought him back on an exclusive rights deal last year.
In 2018, Brendel played four games for the Dolphins and started three.
Johnson, 24, wound up signing on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova back in May of 2018. He agreed to a three-year, $1.71 million contract with Pittsburgh, but was waived with an injury designation coming out of the preseason.
Johnson later reverted to the Steelers injured reserve list after clearing waivers. The Steelers waived him this past January.
During his college career at Villanova, Johnson recorded 78 tackles, two interceptions, 14 pass defenses, a fumble recovery and two interceptions over the course of three seasons and 35 games played.
