The Cleveland Browns announced Thursday that they’ve released or waived 10 players. The full list of roster cuts includes:
- DB Jason McCourty
- DB B.W. Webb
- DL Ricky Ali’ifua
- OL Zach Banner
- DL Collin Bevins
- LB Jeremy Cash
- OL Joseph Cheek
- WR Sammie Coates
- DB Trevon Hartfield
- RB Josh Rounds
McCourty, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Titans back in 2009. He has spent eight years of his career with Tennessee and was in the final year of his six-year, $44.26 million contract when the Titans elected to release him last year.
The Browns quickly signed McCourty to aย two-year, $6 million contract that included $2 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $625,000 for the 2018 season.
According toย OverTheCap.com,ย releasing McCourty willย free up $2,968,750 of available cap space while creating $625,000 in dead money.
In 2017, McCourty appeared in 14 games for the Browns and recorded 65 tackles, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, forced fumbles and 14 pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
Coates, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3 million contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2017 season.
The Steelers traded Coates to the Browns last year for aย 2018 sixth-round pick.
In 2017, Coates appeared in 12 games for the Browns and caught six passes for 70 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
