The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they’ve activated CB Ryan Smith from the exempt list on Saturday and waived OLB Demone Harris in a corresponding move.
Smith, 25, was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2016 draft out of North Carolina Central. He signed a four-year, $2.932 million contract with a $592,160 signing bonus.
He was suspended for four games back in July after violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
In 2018, he appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers, recording 38 total tackles, one forced fumble, one recovery, one interception and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated Smith as the No. 71 corner out of 112 qualifying players.
Harris, 23, signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo back in May of last year. He was waived coming out of the 2018 preseason and signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
He bounced on and off the Buccaneers’ taxi squad throughout last season and re-signed to a futures contract in December.
For his career, Harris has appeared in three games for Tampa Bay but has not recorded any statistics.
During his three-year college career at Buffalo, Harris recorded 106 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception, three pass defenses, one fumble recovery, and four forced fumbles.
