According to Aaron Wilson, Cardinals GM Steve Keim and new HC Kliff Kingsbury are at Oklahoma on Tuesday to meet with QB Kyler Murray.
There has been a lot of buzz about the Cardinals using the No. 1 overall pick on Murray this offseason and then looking to trade Josh Rosen, so it’s certainly something we’ll be keeping an eye over the next month.
Even if Arizona isn’t set on drafting Murray, as many in the NFL believe they are, it’s smart of them to go through the process of evaluating him as a possible selection, given that it could help them drum up offers from other teams looking to move for the Heisman Trophy winner.
A few weeks ago, Kimberly Jones of NFL Network reported that people around the NFL believe “almost universally” that Murray will be the No. 1 overall pick by the Cardinals.
“In terms of Murray, people are beginning to believe almost universally he will indeed be the No. 1 pick in this draft by the Arizona Cardinals,” Jones said. “In fact, teams picking in the top 10 believe they’ll have no chance of drafting Murray. He’s not the biggest quarterback in the world, but he is a very big presence at this combine.”
Murray weighed in at 5-foot-10, 207 pounds at the Combine, which is similar to Russell Wilson and helped to alleviate some concerns.
Murray made the decision to pursue an NFL career a few weeks ago, despite being drafted by the Oakland A’s last year. He’s now in the discussion to be a top-10 pick and could possibly go No. 1 overall.
During this three-year college career at Texans A&M and Oklahoma, Murray completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,098 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,369 and 12 touchdowns over the course of 28 games.
