Jones, 24, was a second-round pick by the Packers out of North Carolina State in 2017. He was entering the third year of a four-year, $4.2 million deal and was slated to make base salaries of $849,856 and $1,042,284 the next two seasons when Green Bay waived Jones with a non-football illness in September.
Jones passed through waivers unclaimed and signed with Dallas’ practice squad once passing through waivers unclaimed.
In 2018, Jones appeared in 13 games for the Packers, recording 55 total tackles, one sack, no interceptions and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 70 safety out of 93 qualifying players.
