The Giants announced on Tuesday they have promoted LB Devante Downs from the practice squad to the active roster.
New York also waived TE Garrett Dickerson in a corresponding move to clear space.
Downs, 24, was drafted in the seventh round out of Cal by the Vikings in 2018. He was entering the second year of a four-year $2.55 million rookie contract but was waived by the Vikings coming out of the preseason this year.
Downs re-signed to Minnesota’s practice squad and was called up to the active roster. After Minnesota waived him again, the Giants signed Downs to their practice squad.
In 2018, Downs appeared in 11 games for the Vikings and recorded two total tackles.
Dickerson, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Northwestern and later signed a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the Giants in 2018. Unfortunately, he was waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to the team’s practice squad.
Dickerson bounced on and off of the Giants’ practice squad in 2018 before landing on the active roster toward the end of the year.
During his four-year college career at Northwestern, Dickerson caught 88 passes for 896 yards receiving and nine touchdowns over the course of 36 games.
