Field Yates reports that the Jets have claimed DB Derrick Kindred off of waivers from the Colts on Tuesday and waived CB Montrel Meander.
Jets DC Gregg Williams worked with Kindred while in charge of the Browns’ defense last year, so there’s an obvious connection between the two.
Kindred, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Browns back in 2016. Cleveland waived him back in April and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Colts.
Indianapolis elected to cut Kindred loose on Monday. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2,839,356 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2,025,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Kindred appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 43 tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 90 safety out of 93 qualifying players.
