Lions HC Matt Patricia announced on Monday the team will be placing first-round rookie TE T.J. Hockenson on injured reserve, per Michael Rothstein.
Hockenson injured his ankle on Thursday against the Bears and will miss the final four games of his rookie season.
Hockenson, 22, was drafted by the Lions in the first round out of Iowa in the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year rookie deal worth $19,821,230, including a $12,435,440 signing bonus.
The deal also includes a fifth-year option for the Lions to pick up in 2022.
In 2019, Hockenson appeared in 12 games for the Lions and caught 32 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. He’s rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 39 tight end out of 70 qualifying players.
