Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions will sign undrafted free agent TE Deon Butler.
With TE Jordan Thompson likely heading to the injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury, the Lions are now expected to sign some young talent to the roster.
Butler is a product of Central Michigan and accumulated 52 receptions for 651 total yards and one touchdown over his college career. Last season, he tallied his best season with 30 receptions for 424 yards.
The Lions have now lost two tight ends to season-ending injuries in Thompson and David Ausberry, who broke his finger earlier this month and was released with an injury settlement.
At this point in time, Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria are expected to be mainstays at the position, with Casey Pierce and Jacob Maxwell also competing for a roster spot.
