NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Seahawks

49ers

• 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said of DE Dee Ford, who was ruled out because of neck issue: “Anytime you’re talking about the neck you do have concerns and it’s why we were cautious. It is a day to day thing and have to see how it reacts.” (Cam Inman)
• Adam Schefter reports that 49ers DT Solomon Thomas suffered a knee injury that will require further testing on Monday before any determination can be made. While there’s concern that this is a serious issue, Schefter says there is not as much clarity as there was with Nick Bosa.

Cardinals

When asked if he thinks Cardinals DE Chandler Jones can set an NFL-record of 23 sacks, HC Kliff Kingsbury called the veteran one of the most difficult players to block in the league. 

“I wouldn’t put anything past Chandler Jones,” Kingsbury said, via Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic. “He’s one of the toughest guys in the league to block and the numbers speak for themselves.”

Cardinals DC Vance Joseph praised Jones’ ability to combine “awkwardness, length, power, and know-how” as a pass rusher. 

“His style is a combination of awkwardness, length, power, and know-how,” Joseph said, “and he’s been a top-tier rusher in this league for about five, six years now and I’m hoping that continues, obviously. He’s got big goals this year that he wants to accomplish.”

• CBS Sports analyst and former agent Joel Corry said if he represented Jones, he’d push to become the NFL’s first $30 million a year non-quarterback given Jones’ production, the pass-rusher market and Arizona’s extension for WR DeAndre Hopkins. 

Seahawks

• NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says Seahawks HC Pete Carroll currently plans to coach through his next deal, which would be around five years.
• Carroll is the NFL’s oldest coach at 69 years old and the team is working on an extension beyond his current deal which ends after 2021.
