NFC Notes: Brandon Aubrey, Von Miller, Commanders, Cowboys, Giants

Commanders

Von Miller concluded his contract with the Commanders and is set to be an unrestricted free agent. When appearing on the Rich Eisen Show, Miller made clear that if he isn’t re-signed by Washington, he would like a return to the Denver Broncos.

“If something were to happen and I’m not a Washington Commander, then I would love to go to the Denver Broncos,” Miller said. “I didn’t get that chance to have closure. I didn’t get to walk into the stadium and be like, ‘OK, this is my last game’ or ‘I’m gonna do this with the fans.’ I didn’t get that closure. So, I would love to have closure with the Denver Broncos. And if, hey, the Commanders don’t want me, the Denver Broncos don’t want me, there’s a team out there that’s gonna pick me up that would love to have my tricks on their roster. I just play it by ear. This is my second time around doing it. I kind of know what to expect. Just got to make the best out of whatever decision I get.”

  • According to Grant Paulsen, Commanders GM Adam Peters was not impressed by the tape of TE Isaiah Likely and was unwilling to pay $13 million per season for him.
  • Dianna Russini reports that the Commanders were interested in WR Romeo Doubs before he signed with the Patriots.

Cowboys

Reports emerged in recent weeks that Cowboys K Brandon Aubrey is seeking $10 million per year on his next contract, while Dallas has been working toward finalizing an extension. Aubrey said on Wednesday that there’s not much going on right now, and he is “sitting around waiting” for his next deal.

“Don’t really have much going at the moment,” Aubrey said, via CowboysWire. “Just sitting around waiting.”

Aubrey is currently a restricted free agent, and a second-round tender would make him set to earn $5.81 million in 2026. The kicker admitted that the tender isn’t the most “ideal for any player.”

“Obviously, the tender is what the Cowboys have talked about, and it’s a good problem to have,” Aubrey said. “It’s a good amount of money. It’s a big pay raise from before, but it’s not the ideal for any player. So we’ll see what happens. Excited to be in this position. It’s an opportunity for me … so I’m thankful for that.”

Aubrey mentioned that being a restricted free agent obviously holds him back from his true value on the open market.

“When you hit that restricted free agency, if you’re not testing the market, then you’re not doing what’s right for you and your family,” Aubrey said. “So you have to do that, if that’s what it comes to.”

Giants

There’s been intrigue among league circles about the Giants’ new power structure under new HC John Harbaugh and how that may impact GM Joe Schoen. New York’s general manager made clear that nothing has changed, and he is still leading the football operation.

“I’m still the general manager of the team, and my role has not changed,” Schoen said, via Dan Duggan of The Athletic. “I’m still tasked with leading the entire football operation.”

Giants’ senior vice president of football operations Dawn Aponte was recently hired to her role. Harbaugh described that Aponte helps make sure everything is properly integrated in their front office.

“Someone like Dawn helps Joe and I, the three of us really, working together to make sure that all of our systems are integrated,” Harbaugh said.
