NFL Notes: Kyler Murray, John Harbaugh, Matt Campbell

Kyler Murray

Jason Cole of Fansided spoke with five executives aboutย Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray and his NFL prospects.

โ€œHeโ€™s a special athlete and wildly versatile,โ€ one NFL GM tells Cole. โ€œThat might make him a consideration late first.โ€

A separate GM said it’s difficult to use a first-round pick on Murray due to his height, but compared him to Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.

โ€œTough to take a 5-10 QB in round one,” the GM said. “Hell of a player. (The team needs) to be committed to him and build (the) offense around him in an unconventional way. Similar to what Baltimore is doing with Lamar (Jackson).โ€

Murray was a first-round pick of the A’s back in June and got $4.6 million fully guaranteed to play football.

Cole mentions that if Murray was a first-round pick in the NFL, he would make close to $6 million overall and more than $5 million guaranteed in the form of a signing bonus.

John Harbaugh

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that current Ravens HC John Harbaugh is viewed as one of the top head-coaching candidates who could be available after the season.
  • According to Florio, John is viewed as being “far more desirable” than his brother Jim Harbaugh.
  • Even if the Ravens don’t fire Harbaugh, Florio mentions that teams could contact Baltimore and offer compensation for Harbaugh before negotiating a contract.

Matt Campbell

  • Iowa State HC HC Matt Campbell has been mentioned as a head-coaching candidate to watch for NFL jobs including the Browns.
  • However, Iowa State agreed to a contract extension with Campbell on Sunday through 2024. (Jamie Pollard)
