If Al Davis has proven anything in term of his negotiating abilities, it’s that he doesn’t fear over paying players, e.g. Nnamdi Asomugha, Javon Walker, JaMarcus Russell, and now Richard Seymour. While Asomugha and Seymour were productive, their contracts are much higher than they would have gotten on the open market.
Yesterday the Raiders brought in Hall of Famer Rod Woodson to be their secondary coach which lead some to believe that the it would help the teams chances of retaining Nnamdi Asomugha. Oakland’s decision to commit what could be $30 million to Seymour may end up costing them the chance to keep Asomugha in silver and black.
The team will still have to address TE Zach Miller who could be franchised and their secondary free agents like safety Michael Huff and cornerback Stanford Routt. After taking this into consideration it seems like aย long shotย that they’re able to re-sign Nnamdi which is good news for those who interested a top-tier cornerback (everyone else).
