Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Panthers will begin GM interview this week with two of candidates scheduled to interview for the job being interim GM Marty Hurney and Texans VP Player of Personnel Jimmy Raye III.
- Tom Pelissero confirms the news and adds that Bills executive Lake Dawson will also interview for the position.
- Carolina is also expected to reach out to Titans executive Ryan Cowden in the coming days.
The Panthers are in an interesting situation, given the impending sale of the team and the possibility that more changes could be coming once a sale is approved later this year.
It’s possible the Panthers could stick with Hurney for the time being, given that it would maintain some continuity before some larger matters are settled.
Hurney has said that he wants to return to the Panthers as GM on a full-time basis.
Hurney is currently under contract through June while Rivera is finishing out the final year of his three-year, $19.5-million contract.
During his 13 years as the GM of the Panthers, Hurney’s teams have produced a record of 101-107 (48.55 percent), which including four playoff appearances and one trip to the Super Bowl in 2003.
We’ll have more regarding the Panthers’ GM job as the news is available.
