Update:
According to Jeff Howe, the Patriots also activated OT Justin Herron from their injured reserve to the active roster on Saturday.
The New England Patriots are placing LT Isaiah Wynn (knee), RB Rex Burkhead (knee) and NT Carl Davis (concussion) on the injured reserve on Saturday, according to Field Yates.
Last week, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that the Patriots feared Burkhead sustained a torn ACL in Week 11, so he was expected to miss the rest of the season.
It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.
Burkhead, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $2,262,200 contract with the Bengals and signed on with the Patriots to a one-year deal in 2017.
The Patriots brought Burkhead back on a three-year, $9.75 million contract in 2018. He’s in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
In 2020, Burkhead has appeared in 10 games for the Patriots and rushed for 274 yards on 67 carries to go along with 25 receptions for 192 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.
