The New Orleans Saints announced Thursday that they’ve activated QB Jameis Winston from the COVID-19 list and placed WR Tre’Quan Smith on injured reserve.
Other roster moves include:
- Saints promoted WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey and WR Austin Carr to their active roster.
- Saints waived WR/KR Tommylee Lewis and G Patrick Omameh.
- Saints activated WR Marquez Callaway from injured reserve.
It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.
Winston, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He played out the 2019 season under the fifth-year option from his rookie contract and made a base salary of $20.922 million.
Winston signed with the Saints on a one-year, $1.1 million deal this past offseason.
In 2020, Winston has appeared in three games for the Saints and completed 7-11 passing attempts for 75 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Smith, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2018. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3,277,024 contract that included an $817,024 signing bonus.
In 2020, Smith has appeared in 14 games for the Saints and caught 34 passes for 448 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
