The New Orleans Saints have officially placed DT John Hughes on injured reserve Wednesday with an elbow injury, according to Nick Underhill.
This move clears a roster spot for veteran DT Tony McDaniel, who has been signed to a contract.
Hughes, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2012. He spent over four years in Cleveland before he was released a few weeks into the 2016 season.
Hughes had a brief stint with the Patriots before signing on with the Buccaneers midseason. The Saints gave him a shot to compete for a roster spot during training camp, but he was released as their trimmed their roster down to 53 players coming out of the preseason.
Hughes has been on and off of their active roster this year.
In 2017, Hughes appeared in eight games and recorded 10 tackles for the Saints.
