Sean McVay: Jared Goff Extension “Matter Of When, Not If”

Rams HC Sean McVay tells Mike Silver that he’s frustrated by the narrative out there that they aren’t committed to QB Jared Goff long term.

“Whether it ends up happening this year or next year, there is a zero percent chance this guy’s not gonna get an extension he’s worthy of,” McVay said. “All the narratives out there are wrong. Jared and I couldn’t be more connected, and I couldn’t be more appreciative of him as our leader. He is so vital and important to us and our success. That extension will get done. It’s a matter of when, not if.

Last week, Mike Garafolo reports that extension talks between the Rams and Goff “could take a while” with Goff playing out the 2018 season under his current deal and then looking to get an extension in place a year from now.

While Carson Wentz just signed a four-year, $128 million extension with the Eagles, Garafolo explains that Goff could wait it out and possible aim even higher Wentz’s deal once talks with the Rams are underway.

Rams COO Kevin Demoff told reporters that Wentz’s new contract has nothing to do with the timing of the Rams reaching an extension with Goff and there’s currently no timetable set to get an agreement in place.

โ€œThe franchise is very committed to Jared Goff,โ€ Demoff said, per Steve Wyche

Goff, 24, was the No. 1 overall pick by the Rams out of Cal back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year deal worth $27.9 million.

The Rams picked up Goff’s fifth-year option that would cost them $22.783 million and become fully guaranteed at the start of the 2020 league year.

In 2018, Goff started all 16 games for the Rams. He completed 364 out of 561 passes (64.9 completion percentage) for 4688 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Goff and the Rams as the news is available.
