Steelers Pick Up $3.9M Of Cap Room By Restructuring DL Stephon Tuitt’s Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Steelers converted $5.195 million of DL Stephon Tuitt’s $6 million base salary into a signing bonus and in turn created $3.9M in cap space.

The Steelers have been operating with a limited about of cap space, so this should give them some breathing room to work with this season.

This is the second straight year the Steelers have reworked Tuitt’s contract.

Tuitt, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Steelers back in 2014. He’s entering the third year of a six-year, $61 million contract that included an $11 million signing bonus.

In 2018, Tuitt appeared in 14 games for the Steelers and recorded 45 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four pass defenses.
