Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Steelers have re-signed exclusive rights free agent TE Xavier Grimble to a one-year, $540,000 contract.
Grimble, 24, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of USC back in 2014. He lasted just a few months with the Giants before eventually signing on to the 49ers’ practice squad at the start of the season.
He had a brief stint with the Patriots before returning tot he 49ers on a future/reserve contract. Unfortunately, Grimble was cut loose at the start of the 2015 season.
The Steelers later added him to their taxi squad and re-signed him to a futures deal last year.
In 2016, Grimble appeared 13 games for the Steelers and caught 11 passes for 118 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
