Tom Pelissero reports that the Vikings are releasing CB Xavier Rhodes, making him an unrestricted free agent.
- Pelissero also reports that Minnesota cut TE David Morgan on Friday.
Rhodes, 29, was taken with the No. 25 overall pick in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.402 million rookie contract when the Vikings picked up his fifth-year option.
He later agreed to a six-year, $78.126 million extension with $41 million guaranteed back in 2017. He was set to make a base salary of $9,900,000 next season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Rhodes creates $8,100,000 in cap space and $4,800,000 in dead money.
In 2019, Rhodes appeared in 15 games and recorded 63 total tackles, five tackles for loss, no interceptions, one forced fumble, and six pass defenses.
