This move comes as expected and keeps Wilson on a minimum salary in San Francisco going into 2020. He’ll compete for a backup running back role for a loaded position group for the 49ers.
Wilson, 24, wound up going undrafted out of North Texas back in 2018. He later signed a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the 49ers, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
Wilson has been on and off the 49ers practice squad and active roster the past few seasons, seeing spot duty as a reserve and special teamer due to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart.
In 2019, Wilson appeared in 10 games for the 49ers and rushed for 105 yards on 27 carries (3.9 YPC) and four touchdowns to go along with three receptions for 34 yards receiving and one touchdown.
