Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Tabor, 24, was drafted by the Lions in the second round out of Florida back in 2017. He was set to enter the third year of his four-year, $4.82 million rookie contract with $2.79 million guaranteed when Detroit cut him loose during final roster cuts.
The 49ers later signed Tabor to their practice squad towards the end of September.
In 2018, Tabor appeared in 12 games for the Lions, recording 28 total tackles, no interceptions and no pass defenses.
Thompson, 25, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Texans’ practice squad and eventually being promoted to their active roster.
After Houston waived him, Thompson signed on with the Orlando Apollos of the now-defunct AAF. He signed on with the 49ers during training camp and was later added to their practice squad.
In 2017, Thompson appeared in 13 games for the Texans and caught five passes for 84 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also totaled 369 kick return yards and 39 punt return yards.
