Texans Waive/Injured CB Josh Thornton, Sign CB Bryce Jones

The Houston Texans announced Tuesday that they’ve signed CB Bryce Jones to a contract and waived CB Josh Thornton with an injury designation.

Should Thornton clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Texans’ injured serve list.

Thornton, 25, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Utah back in May of last year. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Lions cut him loose coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad.

Thornton had a brief stint with the Ravens before joining the Texans towards the end of the season. Houston brought Thornton back on a futures contract this past January.

During his senior year at Southern Utah, Thornton recorded 38 tackles, 11 pass defenses, and three interceptions over the course of 11 games.
