Update:
The Browns announced Wednesday that they’ve officially traded for Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.
โIt’s a reflection of the direction the organization is headed,โ Browns general manager John Dorsey said. โMy hat’s off to a lot of people in this organization because we spent countless hours, weeks — I mean, we can go all the way back to December when we began the planning phases of these types of acquisitions. So my hat’s off to a lot of people in the personnel department and the coaching staff. And for ownership for allowing these types of things to happen. It shows you that ownership is committed to winning.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Giants have agreed to trade WR Odell Beckham Jr to the Browns.
- According to Adam Schefter, the Giants receive a first-round pick in 2019 (No. 17 overall), the Browns’ second third-round pick and S Jabrill Peppers for Beckham.
- Ian Rapoport mentions that Beckham is going to want a restructured contract as part of this trade.
While Giants GM Dave Gettleman told reporters at the Combine that they “didn’t sign Odell to trade him“, it was clear that he was available for trade and the New York was willing to move him for the right deal.
Reports from the past week mentioned that the Browns were the team to watch for Beckham and it looks like they were able to be the Giants’ demands for one of the game’s best receivers.
Beckham, 26, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract before the Giants picked up his fifth-year option in 2017.
Last year, there was speculation that the Rams, 49ers and Patriots could be potential landing spots for Beckham and there has been a lot of buzz about the Browns having interest in him.
Beckham was set to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season when he agreed to a new five-year extension worth up to $95 million and includes $65 million in total guarantees. He stands to make base salaries of $16.75 million and $14 million over the next two years.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Beckham will free up $5 million of available cap space while creating $16 million in dead money.
In 2018, Beckham appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 77 receptions for 1,052 yards receiving (13.7 YPC) and six touchdowns.

HEY BOUDA!!!!! You just made my friggin day! I wrote for a long while now, that Beckham was going to the Brownies for their 2019 1st and 3rd rounders. The player I had included was receiver Antonio Callaway. I’ll take Jabrill Peppers without any doubt.
Honestly, I had doubts about the high pick (#17) in return. Considering the minimal return the Steelers got back in the Antonio Brown trade.
Just picture if this GMEN trade went down prior to losing Landon Collins. A Collins and Peppers led secondary would have been GREAT!
NOW! Trade Janoris Jenkins! With the 17th pick UGAs CB DeAndre Baker should be there. A secondary consisting of Peppers, Beal and Baker would be fierce to say the least. And with the 6th pick take LSU LB White. In the second round take DEs Ximines or Fergueson. The 3rd and 4th round picks at least 2 offensive linemen.
P.S. Gettleman and Shurmur still need to go.
