Following the Packers’ surprising decision to release former Pro Bowl DT Mike Daniels on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo mentions that the Browns “figure to at least take a look” at signing him to a contract.
Garafolo mentions that the Browns have a number of former Packers executives and some coaches on their staff, so there are obvious ties between the two.
Beyond that, the Browns were one of the teams in the mix to sign DT Gerald McCoy before he agreed to a deal with the Panthers.
Daniels is by far the best available free agent at this point and a market for him should develop quickly.
Daniels, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2012. He was entering the final year of his five-year, $41.66 million contract and set to make a base salary of $7.6 million for the 2019 season when the Packers released him.
In 2018, Daniels appeared in 10 games for the Packers and recorded 18 tackles, two sacks, and a pass defense.
We’ll have more regarding Daniels as the news is available.
