Cardinals Waive OT Andre Smith & CB Bene Benwikere, Place LB Josh Bynes On IR

The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that theyโ€™ve waived OT Andre Smith and CB Bene Benwikere and placed LB Josh Bynes on injured reserve.

Smith, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. After seven years in Cincinnati, Smith signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Vikings.

Smith later returned to the Bengals last year on a one-year, $3.25 million contract before agreeing to a two-year, $8 million deal with the Cardinals this past March.

Benwikere, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. Heโ€™s was in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract when the Panthers cut him loose during the 2016 season.

Benewikere had brief stints with the Dolphins and Packers before he signed a futures contract with the Bengals last February. Cincinnati later traded him to the Cowboys for a conditional 2019 sixth-round pick.

The Cardinals signed Benewikere to a contract this past March.

In 2018, Benwikere has appeared in 11 games for the Cardinals and recorded 51 tackles, a half sack, an interception, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.
