On Wednesday, Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters that franchising DT Grady Jarrett is “on the table”, per D. Orlando Ledbetter.
A few weeks ago, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said he was “confident” they be able to get a long-term extension in place with Jarrett before free agency.
โWe will kick off our conversations after the Super Bowl and continue to work on it,โ Dimitroff said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. โWeโve had a number of conversations. We still have a ways to go but we are confident heโs going to be here for years to come.โ
โWe wonโt struggle to find a comparable,โ Dimitroff added. โWe are just really going to be focused on what we feel he is to our organization and make the call based on myself and (coach) Dan (Quinn), ultimately, and decide where we are going to settle on.โ
The franchise tag would run the Falcons $15,355,000 fully guaranteed for the 2019 season if they were to use it on Jarrett.
Jarrett, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.527 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.907 million for the 2018 season.
Jarrett will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2018, Jarrett appeared in 14 games for the Falcons and recorded 53 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 interior defensive lineman out of 118 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
