According to Ian Rapoport, other teams around the NFL believe the Falcons are planning to trade up in the first round from No. 16 overall.
Rapoport says Atlanta has spent a lot of time talking with players who aren’t projected to be available by the midpoint of the first round.
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff has also never shown himself to be shy about moving up for players he likes, most notably when Atlanta traded up for WR Julio Jones back in 2011.
Atlanta is part of a cluster of teams looking to move up in the middle of the first round, including the Buccaneers at No. 14 and the Broncos at No. 15.
Some teams who are reportedly open to trading down include Lions at No. 3, the Jaguars at No. 9, the Raiders at No. 12 and the 49ers at No. 13.
While the offensive tackles have been speculated as a target for some teams, the Falcons have talked about the need to get better on defense this offseason.
Some of the top defensive prospects who could in range include Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah, Florida CB C.J. Henderson, Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons, Auburn DT Derrick Brown and South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw.
We’ll have more on the Falcons as the news is available.
