Update:

Falcons HC Dan Quinn said the team is aware of DE Takk McKinley‘s situation regarding his mental health and will do “everything we possibly can” to support McKinley at this time.

We were recently made aware of the situation involving Takk in Los Angeles earlier today. Any time a situation occurs that is or could be related to mental health issues we take it very seriously. We will do everything we possibly can to support and assist Takk as our players’ mental and physical well-being are always our top priority,” said Quinn, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.

TMZ reports that Falcons DE Takk McKinley was willingly detained by police in Los Angeles on Tuesday after a friend called local PD for assistance due to concern about McKinley’s well-being.

According to TMZ, McKinley spoke with police when they arrived and agreed it was in his best interest to get help and undergo a mental evaluation. McKinley was not arrested or booked for any crimes.

McKinley, 23, was selected with the No. 26 overall pick by the Falcons out of UCLA in the 2017 NFL Draft. He just completed the second year of his four-year rookie contract worth $10,216,792, which included a signing bonus of $5,570,392.

In 2018, McKinley appeared in 15 games for the Falcons and recorded 22 total tackles and 7.5 sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 overall edge rusher out of 105 qualifying players.
