According to Vaughn McClure, Falcons restricted free agent DB Ricardo Allenย has officially signed his one-year tender on Monday.
The Falcons placed a second-round tender on Allen which is worthย $2.914 million.
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said previously theyย would be open to signing Allen to a long-term deal, as opposed to having him play out the 2018 season under a restricted tender.
โYes, I believe we can create space for Rico and a number of other players,โ Dimitroff said when asked if they could Allen to a long-term deal rather than use a restricted tender. โThat said, we are always striving for creativity. And decisions made on certain free agents, whether they be restricted or unrestricted, oftentimes are contingent on the creativity they enable or not.โ
Allen, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was waived a few months after he was drafted and later signed to the Falcons’ practice squad at the start of the 2014 season.
Allen returned to the Falcons on a one-year exclusive rights contract the past few years and was testing the open market as a restricted free agent this offseason.
In 2017, Allen appeared in 15 games for the Falcons and recorded 54 tackles, one interception, and two pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 safety out of 86 qualifying players.
