Vaughn McClure of ESPN reported earlier in the week that Tamme was getting a second opinion for his shoulder injury on Wednesday and the possibilityย exists that he may require season-ending surgery, which would take place on Thursday.
Tamme, 31, is a former fourth-round pick of the Colts back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing on with the Broncos back in 2012.
The Falcons signed him to a two-year, $4 million contract that included $400,000 guaranteed back in March of last year. He stands to make a base salary of $1.1 million for the 2016 season and will be an unrestricted free agent next year.
In 2016, Tamme appeared in eight games for the Falcons and caught 22 passes for 210 yards receiving and three touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 tight end out of 64 qualifying players.
