The Detroit Lions claimed QB Garrett Gilbert off of waivers from the Patriots on Friday, according to Howard Balzer.
Gilbert was placed on waivers Thursday after the Patriots signed veteran QB Matt Flynn to a one-year deal.
Gilbert, 23, is a former sixth round pick of the Rams. However, his time in St. Louis was short lived as he was waived at the start of the 2014 season before later signing to the Rams’ practice squad.
The Patriots wound up signing Gilbert to a future/reserve contract in February.
The Lions currently have Dan Orlovsky, Kellen Moore, and Anthony Boone competing for roster spots behindย starter Matthew Stafford.
