Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there could be even more tag-and-trade scenarios this offseason with Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue, Ravens OLB Matthew Judon and Chiefs DL Chris Jones being among the possibilities to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
Rapoport explains that the lack of top-end pass rushers available in the free agent market this year could lead to teams going the tag-and-trade route with these players.
Meanwhile, Tom Pelissero confirms these are three tag-and-trade possibilities.
Regarding Jones, Pelissero says there’s “no bad blood” with the Chiefs, but he’ll obviously be looking for a huge contract this offseason and people around the league are keeping an eye on his situation.
Jones is reportedly seeking a deal similar in value to teammate Frank Clarkโs five-year, $105 million contract that included $63.5 million guaranteed. However, Kansas City was reportedly offering him closer to $42 million guaranteed over the first three years in a long-term deal. The tag is expected to cost the Chiefs around $16.27 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season.
As for Judon, Pelissero reports that the Ravens plan to see how his market develops before considering potential trade scenarios for him.
Adam Schefter previously reported that Judon is a candidate to be franchised and traded to another team this offseason. The Ravens would reportedly like to re-sign Judon, but they’re expected to at least listen to trade offers from other teams.
Last year, the 49ers acquired Dee Ford from the Chiefs for a second-round pick and later signed him to a five-year deal worth up to $87.5 million deal.
The Chiefs then sent first- and third-round picks in 2019 plus a second-round pick in 2020 to the Seahawks for Clark and a third-round pick. They later agreed to a five-year, $105.5 million deal with $63.5 million guaranteed.
The expectation is that the Jaguars will franchise Ngakoue. However, he made it clear that he has no plans to be back in Jacksonville next year and looks forward to moving on playing for a new team.
Judon, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.595 million contract and is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2019, Judon appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens and recorded 54 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Ngakoue, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and made a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.
Ngakoue will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Ngakoue appeared in 15 games for the Jaguars and recorded 41 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, a defensive touchdown, four forced fumbles, a recovery and six passes defended.
Jones, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2016. He just finished the final year of his four-year, $6.231 million contract and made a base salary of $1.19 million in the final year of the agreement.
In 2019, Jones appeared in 13 games for the Chiefs and recorded 36 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble, one recovery and four pass defenses.
We have all of them included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
