Eagles
Eagles executive Howie Roseman offered a new explanation for their decision to trade DB Eric Rowe to the Patriots last year during an appearance on WIP in Philadelphia Monday.
โItโs the first week of the season and we get this offer, and itโs the Patriots,โ Roseman said, via ESPN.com. โAnd weโre not sitting there thinking weโre getting over on Bill Belichick, maybe the best evaluator of defensive backs in the history of the NFL. What we were thinking about was where he was on our depth chart at the time. And at that time the starting three [cornerbacks] were Nolan [Carroll], Leodis [McKelvin] and Ron Brooks. Jalen Mills at that point in camp had beat him out, so he was the fourth guy. When we spoke with our coaches, they said Malcolm [Jenkins] would be the next guy in the slot. So for where we were and what his role was at the time, we thought it was pretty good value.โ
Roseman previously explained that they tradedย Rowe because they didnโt foresee signing him to a contract extension.
Packers
A number of Packers’ free agents told reporters on Monday that they would like to return to Green Bay next year including TE Jared Cook, OL J.C. Tretter and DB Micah Hyde.
โJust happiness. Iโm just happy to be where I am,โ said Cook, via Packers.com. โIโm happy to finally be able to get somewhere Iโve been searching on a journey. Not the ultimate goal, but you take the good with the bad.โ
โIโd love to be back,โ Tretter said. โObviously thereโs a lot that can happen in the next three months, but I really hope to be back. I like it here, the guys, coaches, staff. I really enjoy the four years Iโve had here.โ
โWhatever happens, happens. I donโt have much of a say in that,โ Hyde said. โIโd love to (be back). This place is the best place for me, but at the end of the day, it has to be business decisions and itโs kind of out of my control.โ
We have all three of these players featured in ourย Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
Saints
- Josh Katzenstein of Nola.com expects Saints TE Coby Fleener to return for the 2017 season, despite a very disappointing first year in New Orleans.
- Overall, Katzenstein believes the Saints are pretty set at tight end after they signed Josh Hill and Michael Hoomanawanui to extensions lastย year, but there’s at least some question as to whether they’ll re-sign John Phillips.
