Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports that the Packers are releasing QB Blake Bortles on Tuesday.
According to Joe Buscaglia, the Packers are also waiving QB Jake Dolegala.
This comes just a day after the Packers negotiated a return with QB Aaron Rodgers, so it’s not surprising that they’re moving on from a veteran backup.
Green Bay’s depth chart at quarterback now consists of Rodgers, Jordan Love, and Kurt Benkert.
Bortles, 29, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $20,654,796 rookie contract when the Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option.
Jacksonville elected to sign Bortles to a three-year, $54 million contract that included $26.5 million guaranteed. However, they cut him loose after signing Nick Foles to a contract a few years ago.
Bortles caught on with the Rams on a one-year, $1 million deal for the 2019 season. He signed on with the Broncos last year and was on and off of their roster before signing on with the Packers this past May.
For his career, Bortles has appeared in 78 games and completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 17,649 yards, 103 touchdowns and 75 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,766 yards and eight touchdowns.
Dolegala, 24, signed with the Bengals after going undrafted out of Central Connecticut State in 2019. He agreed to a three-year, $1.755 million contract, but was waived by Cincinnati coming out of the preseason in September of last year.
The Patriots signed Dolegala to their practice squad soon after and spent the rest of the season on and off of the unit. New England waived Dolegala in April. He signed on with the Packers a month later.
During his four-year college career at Central Connecticut, Dolegala appeared in 44 games. He completed 57.6 percent of his passes and threw for 8,129 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions.
He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
