Joe Person of theย Charlotte Observerย has a number of notes regarding some of the Carolina Panthers soon-to-be free agents included in his recent column.
According to Person, the Panthers are prepared to allow CBย Captain Munnerlyn test the free agent market in the coming weeks.
Person adds that re-signing him to a “shorter, team-friendly” contract remains a possibility, butย Munnerlyn has said previously that he expects to find a better market than he did last year.
Munnerlyn is coming off of a great season in which he producedย 73 tackles,ย 3 sacks, 2 interceptions — both of which were returned for touchdowns — a forced fumble and aย fumble recovery. He was rated as theย No. 11 cornerback in the league, according toย Pro Football Focus.
We have him listed as the No. 34 player in ourย Top 50 Free Agents list.
Person writes that the Panthers “will look to lock up” free agent WR Ted Ginn Jr to a contract extension.
Ginn, 28, signed aย one-year contract with Carolina last year and managed to produce a breakout season in 2013. He totaled 36 receptions forย 556 yard receiving to go along with five touchdowns.
He was also an effective kick returner for the Panthers as well.
We have him listed as the No. 97 player in ourย Top 100 Free Agents list.
Mike Mitchell
Person also expects the Panthers to re-signย free safety Mike Mitchell as well.
Person points to the fact thatย Mitchell brought a “physical presence” to the Panthers’ secondary last season while producing some decent numbers.
Mitchell, 26, totaledย 67 tackles, four sacks, four interceptions and two forced fumbles during his first year in Carolina.
Panthers Notes:
- Person believes the Panthers will try to retain Kย Graham Gano.
-
QB Derek Anderson and TE Ben Hartsock are reportedly viewed as “priorities” for the Panthers.
- Carolina is expected to allow WR Brandon LaFell to reach the open market.

How do you have these guys so low? I’m obviously a Skins fan and could care less…better unless something makes you fell more informed tgat PFF, I’m lost. Captain is easily Top 15 free agent…
You can make the case that both Munnelyn and Mitchell should be higher based on their production last season, but I actually started to get the impression that I was too high on these guys as many have him in the 50-65 range. Our rankings are based on multiple opinions, so I’ll see if I can lobby in favor of propping these guys up a bit.
hahah NO NO how are Allen and Snyder’s less than genius brains going to snag them at a reasonable rate if you do that!!!!???? Keep them ranked low, this is one time when saying my solid logic is flawed despite any rationale…
