According to Mark Kaboly of theย Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Steelers would like to sign CB Cortez Allen to a contract extension before the start of the 2014 season.
It’s worth mentioning that the Steelers refuse to negotiate with players during the season, which is why a deal could be in place in the coming weeks.
Allen, 25, is enteringย the final year of his rookie contract and is set to makeย $645,000 for the upcoming season.
The Steelers don’t have a lot of young players who could take on larger roles in their secondary, so it would make sense for them address Allen’s contract before he can test the free agent market.
Last year, he appeared in 14 games for Pittsburgh and recorded 51 tackles, two interceptions, 13 pass defenses and a defensive touchdown.
