According to Tom Pelissero, the Titans have restructured S Kevin Byard‘s contract to create $6.12 million in cap space.
Byard just entered the first year of the five-year, $70.5 million extension he signed last summer. He was set to make a base salary of $8.6 million in 2020.
The restructure frees up a little bit of spending money for the Titans to deal with emergency needs during the course of the season.
Byard, 27, is a former third-round pick by the Titans in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $3,237,060 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2.025 million in 2019 when he signed a five-year, $70.5 million extension in 2019.
In 2019, Byard appeared in all 16 games for the Titans and recorded 82 total tackles, five interceptions and nine pass defenses.
